Five people were killed in a road accident involving a CNG-run autorickshaw and a truck at Sarishabari upazila in Jamalpur on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred in the Digpaithkor village area on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway, according to Sarishabari Police Station officer-in-charge Chand Mia.
The deceased have been identified as Abdur Razzak, son of Joynal Abedin of Narayanpur village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila; Md Nur Jahangir Alam, son of the late Munsef Ali of EPZ area in Sadar upazila; Abdul Karim Alal, son of Medu Sheikh of Gatepar area; Enam Fakir, son of Amjad Fakir of Nagadair village in Sarishabari upazila; and Ariful Islam, son of Mohor Uddin of Fulbaria upazila in Mymensingh district.
Citing locals, Officer-in-Charge Chand Mia said that a sand-laden truck bound for Tangail from Jamalpur collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw, leaving it crushed.
Four people in the autorickshaw died on the spot, while another person died on the way to a local hospital, he said.
One person was seriously injured in the accident, but he could not be identified immediately, the OC added.
Local fire service personnel and police have recovered the bodies from the scene.
The trucker has fled the scene with the vehicle.
