Five of a family killed in head-on collision in Cox’s Bazar

Five members of the same family were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

Four women and one child are among the deceased, but their identities could not be ascertained immediately, said Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station.

The accident took place around 9:00 am on the Cox’s Bazar–Chattogram highway in the Malumghat area, he said.

OC Mehedi said the Cox’s Bazar-bound microbus collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction, leaving two people dead on the spot. Five others, who sustained critical injuries, were taken to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced three of them dead.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, the police official said.

The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue and efforts are underway to identify them, he added.
