Flood situation in Rajbari district has remained unchanged with the water of the Padma River flowing over the danger level at all points.

In the last 24 hours, the water level of the rover at the Daulatdia point decreased by four cm to 99cm above the danger level.

As a result, about 60,000 people of Sadar, Pangsha, Kalukhali and Goaland upazilas of the district have still remained flooded. They have taken refuge on high roads, dams or at other safe places

Scarcity of drinking water and cattle feed has taken the turn for the worse in the affected areas.

Communications have also broken down as roads and railways have also gone under water. Crops have also been submerged.

Madhumati, an intercity train that starts from Rajshahi, now plies only up to Rajbari railway station as the flood has posed a risk in the flood-hit Goalanda area.

Rajbari Railway Station Master Tanmoy Kumar said Madhumati is now plying up to Rajbari Railway Station only, instead of Goalanda Railway Station, on the instructions of the authorities due to the flood.

Once the flood situation improves, the train will again maintain its regular route, he said.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdul Karim said that apart from in Baliakandi and Kalukhali upazilas, about 10,000 families in Sadar, Pangsha and Goaland upazilas of the district are also affected due to the flood.

Rice, cash, dry food, children and fodder are being distributed in the flood-affected areas and it will continue until the situation improves, he said.
