Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Chairman Mahfuzul Haque has been cleared of a contempt of court rule which the High Court issued against him for failing to comply with its May 12 order.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al-Jalil passed the order after he, in person, sought an unconditional apology on Sunday.

The High Court (HC) on May 12 directed the authorities concerned to immediately remove 52 'substandard' food from the market, local media reported.

But the products which Bangladesh Standard Testing Institution (BSTI) has found to be 'below the quality' continued to be in the market.

The court later on May 23 rebuked the BSFA chief, summoned him and issued the contempt of court rule against him.
