The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken necessary measures to ensure foolproof security for peaceful celebration of the programmes marking the Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year 1431, to be celebrated on Sunday.
"Venues of Pahela Boishakh celebration particularly the Ramna Park, Dhaka University, Suhrawardi Udyan and its surrounding areas, Rabindra Sarani and Hatirjheel will be brought under stringent security arrangement by setting up CCTV cameras, watch towers and drones," DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said while briefing journalists after inspecting security arrangements at Ramna Batamul in the city on Saturday.
The DMP chief said there is no specific security threat centring the Pohela Boishakh celebration, reports BSS.
Still, the DMP has prepared a security plan considering the previous incidents.
He said the police's special branch (SB) will conduct a security check-up through their specialised equipment, while the dog squad will conduct a sweeping in the concerned areas.
The bomb rescue and disposal team has already completed rehearsal and will be kept on standby.
He also said vehicular movements will be restricted in Dhaka University and Ramna Park area from this evening as part of security vigilance.
Archways will be installed at the entrances of Ramna to search the people with metal detectors. Members of the detective branch, SB, and other intelligence agencies will be active inside and outside the venues in plain clothes, the DMP Commissioner added.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Dr K Mohid Uddin, Additional Commissioner of Police (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Md Munibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner of Police (CTTC) Md Asaduzzaman, Joint Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police and officers of various ranks were also present.
