

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam on Tuesday urged Romania to resume labour recruitment from Bangladesh, emphasising the need to expand cooperation across potential sectors.
During a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, non-resident Ambassador of Romania to Bangladesh, Sena Latif, met with the Foreign Secretary, where both sides discussed avenues to deepen bilateral engagement.
The Foreign Secretary welcomed the Ambassador to Bangladesh and congratulated her on the presentation of her credentials. He underscored the importance of academic collaboration through joint scholarships, mutual recognition of academic degrees, and university exchange programmes between the two countries.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation, as per reports from news agencies.
During the meeting, Mr Siam proposed greater collaboration in the areas of trade, investment, labour mobility, education, and consular services, according to a press release issued by the Ministry.
He also identified opportunities for trade diversification and investment in key sectors such as information and communication technology (ICT), renewable energy, and agro-processing.
The Foreign Secretary reiterated his proposal for academic engagement, encouraging joint educational initiatives to build long-term partnerships between the nations’ academic institutions.
Ambassador Latif appreciated the suggestions and assured that they would be conveyed to the Romanian authorities for consideration. She also acknowledged Bangladesh’s request to facilitate visa services for prospective students and workers through interim consular arrangements.
In conclusion, the Foreign Secretary assured the Ambassador of the government’s full support in fulfilling her duties and strengthening Bangladesh-Romania ties during her tenure.
