Former Army Chief Moeen U Ahmed’s home in Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila was vandalised and set on fire.

The incident took place on Thursday night (February 6) at his family residence in Alipur village under Chowmuhani Municipality.

The house is currently inhabited by his younger brother, Javed U Ahmed, a former vice president of the Noakhali District Awami League.

Eyewitnesses reported that around 9:00 pm, over a hundred youths armed with sticks attacked Moeen U Ahmed’s house, carrying out extensive vandalism and looting. They also set fire to a sofa in the drawing room.

Md Ariful Islam, the convener of the Noakhali district branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, “We have no involvement in these acts of vandalism or arson. We have learnt that the attack in Chowmuhani was due to political conflict.”

Begumganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liton Dewan said that upon receiving news of the attack, army personnel and police were deployed to the scene. However, no perpetrators were found at the location.
