Former chief election commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has died at the age of 83.
He passed away at his residence in Dhaka's Gulshan around 9:00 am on Saturday, according to his brother-in-law Ashfaque Qaderi.
“The former CEC died at his home at 9:00 am. He was later brought to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead,” he said.
The funeral for Huda, who was also a civil servant, will be held after his daughter returns from the United States, he added.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, according to a bdnews24.com report.
As head of the Election Commission, he oversaw the ninth parliamentary elections in 2008.
