Mohammad Abdul Mubarak, a former election commissioner, has died at the age of 79.
He passed away on Monday morning at Apollo Imperial Hospital in Chattogram, reports bdnews24.com.
Mubarak had been suffering from cancer for a long time, according to his sister-in-law Sanjida Akhter.
He was admitted to the hospital last week after his condition worsened. He leaves behind a wife, daughter and many admirers.
A first funeral prayer was held in the afternoon at the Omargani MES College grounds in Chattogram.
He will be buried in his birthplace, Hathazari, following another prayer.
Mubarak served as a member of the Election Commission from 2012 to 2017 and was part of the commission that oversaw the 10th parliamentary election.
The Officers Club Dhaka has expressed sorrow over his passing.
