Former Jatiya Party MP Abdul Kader Khan, who was sentenced to death for the murder of former Awami League lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton, has died at the age of 69.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost in charge Inspector Md Faruk said: "The body of the deceased has been kept in the hospital's morgue for autopsy.”
Kader had been undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, or BSMMU, since Oct 14. He died there on Sunday morning.
According to the police report, he was undergoing treatment for glaucoma in both his eyes.
However, his death certificate issued by the hospital said he died of a heart attack.
Awami League MP Liton was shot dead at his home in Master Para of Gaibandha’s Sundarganj Upazila on Dec 31, 2016. The victim’s elder sister Fahmida Kakoli initiated a case against five or six unidentified people at the Sundarganj Police Station over the incident.
After the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against Kader and seven others to the court on Apr 30, 2017.
According to the charge sheet, Kader had masterminded the killing at the end of 2015 to clear his path for election. For this, Kader paid Tk 1 million to the hired killers.
He was a member of parliament from Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency before Liton.
