Former chairman of the capital development authority Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Siddiqur Rahman Sarker has died.

He passed away around 11:30am on Friday at a friend’s residence in Faridpur, according to RAJUK’s Chief Urban Planner Md Ashraful Islam.

He told bdnews24.com, “An army officer informed me of the incident. Our PRO also shared the information in RAJUK’s internal WhatsApp group. From what we know, he suffered a heart attack. He was visiting a friend in Faridpur.”

Siddiqur was appointed chairman of RAJUK on contract for two years on Apr 4, 2024. His contract was cancelled on Sept 17 the same year, removing him from the post.

However, on Sept 22, that cancellation order was revoked and he was reinstated as chairman. The government terminated his contract again on Mar 8 this year.

The Anti-Corruption Commission later began an inquiry into allegations of corruption against him. On Apr 17 this year, the court imposed a travel ban on him and his wife following an ACC petition. On May 19, an order was also issued blocking their shares.

Siddiqur hailed from Narsingdi’s Shibpur. He was commissioned into the Bangladesh Army as an engineer in 1983 and served in several important positions, including engineer-in-chief of the Army.

His funeral prayers are scheduled to take place after Maghrib prayers on Friday at the Mirpur DOHS Jame Mosque.
