Former secretary Nasir Uddin becomes new CEC

Retired secretary AMM Nasir Uddin has been appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), according to local media reports.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday. At the same time, four more commissioners have been appointed.

The four commissioners are former additional secretary Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, former district and sessions judge Abdur Rahmanel Masud, former joint secretary Tahmida Ahmed and retired brigadier general Abul Fazal Md Jahangir Alam Sanaullah.

AMM Nasiruddin was one of the two names proposed by BNP for the post of Chief Election Commissioner. He was the secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Health. He retired in January 2009.
