Aparajito 24 Foundation, a voluntary non-profit run mostly by Bangladeshi expatriates in the USA, has been launched in Dhaka to support the victims of the July 2024 uprising and their families.
The foundation has already rehabilitated 12 severely injured students and professionals and treated 50 others who lost either one eye or both and body parts during the July movement at home and abroad in cooperation of local-level organisations.
The information was revealed during an exchange of views among stakeholders at the launching ceremony of the foundation held at the Banani DOHS Club on Saturday.
Former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury and Liberation War Affairs Ministry Secretary Azizur Rahman Bir Uttam were among others present on the occasion.
Representatives from different organisations, including National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, Do Something Foundation, July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, Volunteer Uttara 24, Loraku 24 and Visionary Voice were also present.
All the 12 students who got treatment and rehabilitated were present at the event. Samsi Ara Zaman, mother of Shaheed Tahir Zaman Priyo July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, shared her pain while trying to help injured students in Rangpur area.
Aparajito 24 Foundation President Parvin Rahman and General Secretary Hafizur Rahman briefed the foundation’s activities run since November last.
The former adviser highlighted the role of the students in the July uprising and stressed the need for rehabilitation of the injured students and the families of the victims through entrepreneurship development.
She called upon the private sector to come forward to help the victims and their families.
The Aparajito 24 Foundation president laid emphasis on the continuation of treatment, medical support, rehabilitation and follow-up for helping the young fighters of July uprising and their families come out of the traumatic situation they faced during July movement.
Several speakers highlighted the mismanagement and non-cooperation July uprising heroes are facing.
They called for formulating national rehabilitation policy, establishing special medical and mental health support units and launching awareness programme for social sensitisation.
