Four arrested as trader dies of scythe wound from Jashore robbery

After a two-day fight for his life, a businessman injured with a scythe during a robbery in Jashore’s Sharsha has succumbed to his wounds. Police have arrested four robbers in connection with the incident.
The victim, 42-year-old Abdur Rashid Rokon, died at Jashore Sadar Hospital at 11:30pm on Friday, reports bdnews24.com.
Rokon hailed from Ward No. 1 in the Upazila’s Baganchra Union. He was the manager of Mandul Traders, a shop in Bagachra Bazar’s Masjid Market area owned by Ruhul Amin.
Amin and Sub-Inspector Ujjal Hossain of Sharsha Police Station confirmed Rokon’s death.
Mandul Traders supplied goods to different locations as a dealer for Narish Feed Limited.
The detainees have been identified as 24-year-old Hridoy Hossain from Jhikargacha Upazila’s Kalagachi village, 28-year-old Tariqul Islam from the same village, 20-year-old Faisal Hossain from Chanderpol village, and 21-year-old Rabbel Hossain Rabbi from Islampur village.
Amin filed a case at Sharsha Police Station over the incident on Wednesday, according to KM Rabiul Islam, chief of Sharsha Police Station.
Citing the case documents, he said: “Abdur Rashid Rokon had collected money from traders at different markets and was returning home on his motorcycle on Wednesday.”
“Along the way, robbers struck him on the left arm with a sharp scythe and caused him to fall off his motorcycle in front of Tariqul Islam’s house in Ulashi Matpara on the Navaron-Satkhira highway. They then grabbed Tk 855,000 from his bag and fled.”
Police have recovered Tk 803,000 after arresting the four suspects, he said.
