Four people have been arrested in connection with the vandalism and damage caused to homes, shops, and the local Loknath temple belonging to the Hindu community in the Doarabazar area of Sunamganj.

The arrestees are Alim Hossain (19), Sultan Ahmed Raju (20), Imran Hossain (31), and Shajahan Hossain (20), the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser said in a press statement on Saturday.

A 20-year-old Hindu youth named Akash Das from Monglargao village in Doarabazar, Sunamganj, posted a derogatory comment about Islam on his Facebook profile on December 3, according to the police headquarters.

Although the post was deleted, screenshots of it circulated, causing unrest among the local residents.

Upon receiving the news, Doarabazar police detained Akash Das on the same day. However, locals attempted to snatch him from police custody.

For security reasons, Akash was not taken to Doarabazar police station but was instead transferred to the district headquarters police station.

On the day of the incident, a mob vandalized homes, shops, and the local Loknath temple, according to the police.

The situation was brought under control with the intervention of the district's Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Commissioner (DC), army personnel, and law enforcement.

The police launched a thorough investigation to identify those involved in the attack.

Based on their findings, a case naming 12 individuals and including 150 to 170 unidentified suspects was filed today.
