Police in a drive arrested four people in connection with their involvement in a mugging incident in Moghbazar area, from different parts of the capital.
The arrestees were identified as Md Shamim, 24, Md Jibon alias Hridoy, 27, Sohel Rana, 36 and Makbul Hossain, 25.
Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them from different parts of the country in Dhaka and its adjacent area, said Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Police also seized the bag snatched during the mugging, Tk 9,600 in cash, one mobile phone set, two knives, one switch gear and a motorcycle from their possession.
The mugging incident in Greenway lane in Moghbazar area occurred on May 19 and the CCTV footage of the incident went viral in the social networking site, drawing huge flak.
After citing the CCTV footage, police identified the muggers and arrested them.
According to the CCTV footage, Sohel, Hridoy and Shamim were found involved in the direct mugging with weapons while Makbul was the buyer of the valuables snatched from the victims, said police.
The arrestees were the active members of a mugging gang and they were involved in muggings in different areas, said police.
All of them were wanted in different cases.
