The government has suspended four more officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for allegedly obstructing official duties during the recent movement.
To this effect, the NBR on Monday issued four separate orders, signed by NBR chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
With these suspensions, a total of 31 officials and employees from the rank of NBR Member down to security staff have been temporarily suspended over the past one and a half months due to the movement.
According to the letters, after the government issued the Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance 2025 on May 12, officials and employees of NBR’s Customs, Excise and VAT, and Income Tax departments staged protests.
During the demonstrations, the suspended officials were found obstructing on-duty staff from carrying out official responsibilities.
In addition, they played an active role in forcing colleagues to abandon their duties and gather at the NBR headquarters, disrupting the country’s import-export activities.
The officials have been suspended as per the existing Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
The order further states that the officials will receive allowances during the period of suspension.
