Gang member held with arms in Cox’s Bazar

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) during a drive detained a listed member of inter-country (Bangladesh-Myanmar) criminal group along with arms and bullets from a remote hilly region of Puran Pollanpara area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Tuesday.

The arrestee, identified as Md Anwar Hossain (35), was a member of Hakim group, a listed notorious robber group of Home Ministry, hailed from Naitongpara area of the upazila.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 led by Squadron Leader Safayet Jamil Fahim and Senior ASP Mimtanur Rahman raided the area and arrested Anwar along with two shooter guns and three rounds of bullets, said a press release of Rab-7.

Hakim group had been involved in committing robberies, murders, abductions and extortion for a long time in Bangladesh Myanmar border area, reports UNB.

Several cases were filed against the gang with different police stations of Cox’s Bazar district, the release added.
