A huge quantity of jhut (garment scraps) was damaged as a fire broke out at a warehouse in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Wednesday.
According to the fire service, the fire started around 12:30 am at Sarwar Hossain’s warehouse in Bakultola on Mawna-Sreepur road.
On information, initially a firefighting unit the Sreepur Fire Service Station rushed to the spot to douse the flames, reports UNB.
As the fire intensified, two more units from Rajendrapur Modern Fire Service joined the operation and managed to bring the fire under control after two hours of efforts.
All stocked jhut inside the godown were damaged and three cattle housed nearby also perished, locals said.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses could not be known, said Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service, Md Mamun.
