Gas stations across the country will remain open for 24 hours for 10 days to facilitate people’s homebound journey to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha, which may fall on August 12.

“The movement of heavy vehicles will remain suspended for three days before and after the Eid. But vehicles carrying perishable goods, garments and medicines will operate as usual,” said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at a news briefing on Monday.

The gas stations will be operating nonstop for seven days before and three days after the Eid.

Usually, gas stations remain closed from 5:00pm to 9:00pm every day as part of energy rationing, according to a bdnews24 report.

Quader said, “To reduce the Eid rush, garment owners were also asked to spread out Eid holidays for the workers.”

Hoping the roads will not cause traffic congestion, he said, “Roads have been damaged in the flooded areas of the country and they are being repaired on an emergency basis. There is no reason for causing trouble anywhere on the highway as all the roads are in good shape.”

The minister urged the Dhaka City Corporations not to allow markets of sacrificial animals on the roads.
