Gas supply cut off in Uttara, nearby areas after valve rupture: Titas

A valve on an industrial customer’s service line near the Uttara–Tongi Bridge ruptured on Tuesday, triggering a high-pressure gas leak and forcing an immediate shutdown of supply through Uttara’s main pipeline, according to a statement from Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC.

In the press release issued on Tuesday night, Titas said it had shut down the main 12-inch-diameter distribution pipeline due to the leak, leaving gas supply suspended across Uttara, Uttar Khan, Dakshin Khan and adjacent areas. Work to replace the damaged valve was underway, it added.

Such valves are used to reduce or increase gas flow and are installed at various points along the distribution network.

Titas apologised for the temporary inconvenience to consumers.

The latest disruption comes amid broader fuel-supply pressures in Dhaka. Local media and consumers have reported an LPG supply crunch in recent weeks, while repeated incidents have also affected pipeline gas distribution.

Earlier this month, a pipeline was damaged beneath the Turag River near Aminbazar, disrupting supply in parts of the city, including Mirpur and Mohammadpur, according to reports. On January 10, a valve burst in front of the Gonobhaban on Mirpur Road, temporarily cutting supply before service resumed later that night after repairs and replacement work.
