Gazipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ariful Islam has been withdrawn over his negligence of duty during an attack on several leaders and activists of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement on Friday.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan announced the withdrawal on Friday afternoon, while speaking to protesters in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
He also apologised for the police’s delayed response to the attack, saying “I take responsibility for the failure. None will be spared. Besides the OC, other police officers who delayed the response will also face action.”
Earlier on Friday night, several leaders and activists of the Student Movement sustained injuries during an attack in front of the house of former minister and Gazipur Awami League President AKM Mozammel Haque in the city.
