A fire at a “jhut” or waste fabric warehouse in Gazipur has been brought under control within an hour by the Fire Service.

The incident occurred around 12:30pm on Tuesday in the Kathora area of Salna, according to Hiron Mia, station officer of the Bhogra Modern Fire Service.

The fire reportedly started at the warehouse on property belonging to Abdul Awal Mia. Local residents attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful as the fire quickly spread beyond their control.

Two units from the Rajendrapur Fire Service arrived at the scene and began tackling the blaze. As the fire intensified, two more units from Bhogra Modern Fire Station joined the effort.

By 1:15pm, all four units had successfully contained the fire before it could reach nearby tin-roofed homes.

Officer Hiron said dumping and cooling operations continued until 3pm.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined after an investigation, he said. No injuries were reported in the incident.
