A child who was allegedly raped while visiting her sister’s house in Magura has been placed on life support.

Her uncle, Yusuf Biswas, said she was put on life support on Friday night.

Earlier on Thursday evening, she was taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment and admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, or PICU, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Citing doctors that day, Sub-Inspector Md Masud of the hospital’s police outpost told bdnews24.com: “The child’s condition is critical.”

The 8-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted when she went to visit her sister’s house in Nijnanduali village in the Magura suburbs on Thursday afternoon, according to a bdnews24.com report.

Her family says she was initially admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital for treatment. When her condition deteriorated, she was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

From there, she was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Her mother says the girl remains unconscious and had been alone at the house at the time of the incident, making it difficult to immediately identify the culprits.

“They found my daughter alone in the house, raped her, and left her. We found her unconscious on the floor and rushed her to the hospital.”

Subash Ranjan Halder, a doctor in the emergency unit of Magura Sadar Hospital, said on Thursday night that the girl's condition is still “critical”.

In response to the incident, local residents gathered outside the Magura Police Station on Friday, demanding justice for the victim.

Several hundred people participated in the protest after Juma prayers and attempted to enter the police station.

Later, police and military personnel arrived to disperse the crowd and remove them from the area.
