GM Quader opposition leader in parliament, Anisul deputy

Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Quader has been made the leader of the opposition in parliament.

To this effect, the Parliament Secretariat issued a notification on Sunday.

Jatiya Party’s Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud has been made the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury recognised Quader, the Rangpur-3 MP, as leader of the opposition and Anisul, the Chattogram-5 MP, as deputy leader of the opposition according to the rules of procedure of the National Parliament, the according to the notification.

The Awami League has formed the government for its fourth straight term after winning an absolute majority in the 12th parliamentary elections this year.

The ruling party won 223 out of 299 seats in the January 7 elections, while the rest went to independent candidates (62), Jatiya Party (11), Workers Party (1), Kalyan Party (1) and JaSad (1).

The election for one seat has been postponed due to the death of an independent candidate contesting this seat on Dec 29 last year.
