A court in Dhaka on Thursday acquitted Md Monir Hossain, also known as ‘Golden Monir’, in a case filed over alleged possession of illegal arms.

In its judgment, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, citing a police officer, said that the two weapons were licensed in the name of Monir Hossain and his wife. Therefore, the court found it implausible that they would possess two illegal weapons while also owning two legal ones.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Asaduzzaman delivered the verdict in the case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), according to a local daily newspaper.

Tapas Kumar Pal, Additional Public Prosecutor of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court conducting the case on behalf of the state, informed the daily newspaper that the court acquitted Monir Hossain in the arms case.

An appeal against the judgment would be filed after receiving the full judgment, he added.
