The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to demolish all illegal structures built in the Gomati River within the next six months.
A High Court division bench, comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Bashir Ullah, passed the order on Wednesday while disposing of a writ petition regarding illegal occupation of the river.
Advocate Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan, the writ petitioner, said that the court also instructed the authorities to report back on the eviction progress once completed, reports BSS.
Senior Advocate Manzill Murshid, president of rights and environmental organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB), moved the petition on behalf of the writ petitioner.
Petitioner Advocate Bhuiyan expressed hope that the authorities would begin implementing the court's directive without delay.
