Government employees staged a demonstration as part of their ongoing movement at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, demanding repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

After the demonstration in front of Building 6 in the Secretariat's Badamtoli area, they submitted a memorandum to three advisers-Ali Imam Majumder, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan and urged them to accept their demand.

During the protest, employees chanted various slogans such as "Abolish the illegal black law," "Employees turn down the unlawful black law," "We don't accept and won't accept this repressive ordinance," "Unite and fight, 1.8 million employees," and "Beware, collaborators of fascism".

After submitting the memorandum, Co-chairman of the Bangladesh Secretariat Employees Unity Forum Md Nurul Islam told the media that they would announce though programme if their demand is not met.

Talking to the media after discussion with the agitating leaders of the Bangladesh Secretariat Employees Unity Forum, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan acknowledged that certain sections of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance might be misused.

"We are aware of its shortcomings. We wouldn't say any more. We'll just convey your (employees) demand to the advisory council. You also may consider how the ordinance can be made acceptable by incorporating safeguards," he said. Mr Khan, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, requested the employees to maintain a congenial environment at the Secretariat.

Co-secretary General of Employees Unity Forum Md Nazrul Islam was present, among others.

The protesting employees will submit a memorandum to two advisers today (Monday).

The Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance issued on May 25 allows for the termination of government employees for four types of disciplinary breaches without departmental proceedings-requiring only a show-cause notice.
