The government has formed an 11-member advisory council to oversee and provide guidance on the overseas employment of Bangladeshi nationals.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Asif Nazrul has been appointed as the convener of the council.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification announcing the formation of the committee recently.
The other members of the council are-- Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Industries Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Education Adviser Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S. Murshid, Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.
Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser or Secretary of the Chief Adviser’s Office, Bangladesh Bank Governor and secretaries of various ministries and divisions including Public Security, Security Services, Women and Children Affairs, Finance Division, Financial Institutions Division, Health Education and Family Welfare Division, Labour and Employment Ministry, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Health Services Division, Technical and Madrasah Education Division and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs officials will include in the council as supporting officials.
The council will coordinate activities related to manpower recruitment abroad, advise on expanding current labour markets and exploring new ones and make recommendations to address challenges in overseas employment.
It will also provide suggestions for the overall welfare of migrant workers and ensure safe, orderly and regular migration through well-managed processes at all levels.
Besides, the council will provide recommendations on skill development for prospective migrants, enhancing legal remittance flows, reintegrating returnee workers and offer guidance on any related matters as needed.
Meetings of the advisory council will be held when required.
The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment will provide secretarial support.
The council may also co-opt members as necessary.
The notification also said that the previous gazette issued by the Cabinet Division on April 8, 2024, regarding this matter has been cancelled.
