The government has formed a number of monitoring committees to ensure proper management of rawhides and skins of sacrificial animals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has published official orders by forming some committees, including central joint coordination, divisional, monitoring team, and control cell.

The central joint coordination committee, headed by the commerce secretary, will oversee overall collection, preservation, transaction, transportation and other issues related with hides and skins.

The divisional committee will monitor issues like required salt, collection, preservation, transaction, transportation, etc at divisional level.

Besides, the six monitoring committees, headed by joint and deputy secretaries, will communicate with the tanners concerned across the country, including two Dhaka city corporations, Posta, Savar and Natore.

The committees have been constituted following the decisions of a recent meeting at the MoC with the stakeholders concerned, with its secretary in the chair, officials said.

They said the ministry has already asked the state agencies concerned to ensure proper implementation of the measures, including forming monitoring teams and setting up a control cell to oversee buy-sale activities as well as preservation and transportation of rawhides.

Besides, the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken initiatives to help transport rawhides of sacrificial animals across the country and to increase vigilance along the border areas to prevent any attempt to smuggle out rawhides, said a source.

The Bangladesh Police, BGB and RAB have been asked to remain alert to ensure that there is no impediment in transportation of rawhides.

The agencies have been asked to take necessary steps to stop transporting rawhides ten days after the Eid as well as to increase monitoring at different important points including the border areas. The state agencies concerned have also taken preparations to make available required quantities of salt used for preserving rawhides, to ensure proper waste management, and to remove transportation-related hassles.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has already trained 36,000 slaughters countrywide.

A senior official said the MoC has requested different agencies to take necessary actions in accordance with the meeting decisions.

The government has already set up a control room to monitor preservation, transportation, and buy-sale of rawhides of sacrificial animals during the Eid-ul-Azha, officials said.

The control room officials will take necessary steps promptly, if any problem arises, they added.

People have been requested to contact at mobile number - 0161733806 - in this regard, said an MoC press release on Monday.

Around 12 million animals are ready across the country for sacrifice during this Eid.
