Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, Mahfuj Alam, on Sunday, stated that the government is strictly against any form of mob justice, reiterating that the law will take its own course.
He emphasised that people should remain vigilant to ensure there is no compromise in holding perpetrators accountable.
A former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, who had a physical disability caused by violence in 2014, died early Sunday after being beaten by a mob in Rajshahi the previous night.
The Special Assistant made these remarks when a reporter brought up the issue of mob justice, including the killing of the BCL man.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar and Apurba Jahangir were present at the briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy.
When asked about the wholesale cases being filed, the Special Assistant said the government supports due process.
Mahfuj also mentioned that Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus had discussions with the students on various issues, marking one month of the interim government.
