Govt job application fees increased as VAT imposed on service charge

The government has imposed value-added tax (VAT) on service charges in payment of government job application fees through Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd.
Currently, Teletalk gets a 10 per cent commission on the fee paid by an applicant for a job at different government organisations.
According to a circular of the finance ministry issued on Thursday, a 15 per cent VAT will be imposed on the 10 per cent service charges, local newspapers reported.
For instance, the application fee for a ninth-grade job is Tk 600. An additional Tk 69 will charged from a jobseeker for this grade of job as he/she has to pay 10 per cent service charge or Tk 60 and 15 per cent VAT on the service charge or Tk 9.
Meanwhile, applicants of 10th-grade jobs will pay an additional Tk 57.50 along with the application fee of Tk 500.
Aspirants of 11th and 12th grade jobs will pay a total of Tk 334.50 which includes Tk 34.50 as service charge and VAT.
The cost of application will be increased to Tk 223 for 13th to 16th grade jobs with the inclusion of Tk 23 as service charge and VAT.
Application fee for 17th to 20th grade jobs is Tk 100 and Tk 11.50 will be added as service charge and VAT.
