Govt publishes names of casualties in jet crash

The government today published the names of the deceased and injured in the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) fighter plane crash at the Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area.

Names of 22 deceased and 57 injured who are now undergoing treatment at different city hospitals were published by the press wing of the Chief Adviser this afternoon. 

The identity of seven among 29 deceased is yet to be known.

According to the updated information till 3:30pm  today provided by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) the death toll in the aircraft stand at 30 while 55 injured are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the capital.

Twenty two among 29 people who died in the plane crash are identified as Tanvir,14, Afnan Faiyaz,14, Mahrin, 46, Bappy, 9, Masuka, 37, AB Shamim, 14, Shayan Yusuf, 14, Arikson,13, Ariyan,13, Nazia, 13, Nafi, 9, Rojoni Islam, 37, Md Samiul Karim, 9, Mrs Fatema Akter, 9, Mehnaz Afarin Humayra, 9, Sariya Akter, 13, Nusrat Jahan Anika,10, Saad Salahuddin, 9, Sayma Akter, 9, Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, Junayet, 9 and Omayer Nur Ashiq,11.

A total of 22 bodies were handed over to their families after identification.

The bodies of six persons have been kept at the morgues of Combined Military Hospital, while body of one person is at the morgue of Lubana General Hospital and Cardiac Centre, said a handout of the PID on Wednesday.

DNA sample testing is underway to identify and hand over the bodies to the families.

Of the 29 deceased, 11 died at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Unit, 15 at CMH and one at United Hospital Limited.

Eleven of the injured who are now undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital, are military master warrant officer (MWO) Ahosan, 51, (JCO Med), Bangladesh Army soldiers (SNKs) Shariar Sajib, 24, (Trauma Centre), Kamruzzaman, 27, (Trauma Centre) and Tasin Ahmed, 23, (Trauma Centre), PS to Milestone Principal Atik, 22, (Burn ICU), teacher Anowar Hossain, 37, (Burn ICU), student Akib, 12, (Burn ICU), S/O, CPO, Md Billal Hossain,12, (Burn ICU), student Taskir Rahman, 15, (Burn ICU), student Jannatul Mawa,10, (Burn ICU), and student Takrim Haque,16, (Trauma Centre).

However, student Meherun Nessa, 14, was undergoing treatment at Bed-53 under ward 503 of Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital.

Of the injured 45 injured who are now undergoing treatment at the burn institute, nine have been classified in the critical category, 13 in CBR (Complete Bed Rest), and 23 in the intermediate category, sources in the institute said.

The injured are being given treatment in consultation with the medical team from Singapore General Hospital that arrived in capital on Wednesday.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, a fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) crashed into the Milestone School and College at Uttara due to mechanical fault, leaving at least 29 killed and many others injured.
