The government has removed Professor Robed Amin from his role as acting Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) amid protests from a section of doctors.
Professor Nazmul Hossain, currently the Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education, will take on the additional responsibilities, the health ministry said in an order on Thursday.
Mr Amin was appointed on August 19, replacing Professor Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.
However, the Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a group aligned with the BNP, had been protesting the appointment, filing complaints against Amin with the health ministry.
They alleged that Mr Amin had opposed recent student-led mass movement and enegaged in corruption and irregularities during his tenure as the Line Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Control.
Amin denied the allegations, saying they were not true and that he is taking leave due to illness.
