A Jashore court on Wednesday sentenced former Awami League MP Shahin Chakladar to four years in jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) around 16 years ago.
Judge of Jashore Special and Sessions Judge Court SM Nurul Islam also fined him Tk 20,000 and ordered the confiscation of his properties worth over Tk 3.8 million (Tk 3,803,685).
The court issued a warrant for his arrest, said the district unit of Awami League law affairs secretary Advocate Gazi Abdul Kadir, who stood for the former lawmaker, UNB reports.
On March 30, 2008, the then deputy director of the ACC (Jashore office), Manjur Morshed, filed a case against Shahin Chakladar, the current general secretary of the district unit of Awami League, on charges of concealing information about properties worth Tk 3.8 lakh.
The ACC found inconsistencies between his tax file and the submitted statement of properties.
In the statement of properties, the former MP mentioned that he owned properties worth over Tk 19.6 million, with a loan of Tk 19.1 million.
However, the ACC found that the actual value of his properties was Tk 5.6 million, and he concealed information about properties worth over Tk 3.8 million.
On January 5, 2009, the ACC submitted a chargesheet against him.
