Grameen Bank branch set on fire in Brahmanbaria

Unidentified miscreants set fire to a Grameen Bank branch in Vijaynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 2:00 am at the bank’s Chandura branch in the upazila.

Bank Manager Md Kalim Uddin said the attackers poured petrol inside the office before setting it on fire. The night guard quickly raised the alarm, and with the help of locals, the blaze was brought under control before it could spread further.

According to Wasi Azad, station officer of the Vijaynagar Fire Service, furniture and documents were damaged in the fire, though the bank’s vault and cash remained intact.

Officer-in-Charge of Vijaynagar Police Station Shahidul Islam said no one witnessed the culprits setting the fire, but an investigation is underway to identify those responsible.
