‘Gunfight’ leaves robber dead

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bhaturia in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah on Tuesday night.

The deceased—Amirul Islam Pocha, 43— was member of an inter-district robber gang, sources said.

Golam Morshed, assistant superintendent of RAB-6, said the elite force set up a check-post in the area.

While passing through the check-post, a gang of robbers opened fire to RAB men forcing them to fire back in self-defence.

Later, the RAB members recovered the bullet-hit body of Pocha and sent to Harinakundu upazila Health Complex.

They also recovered one shutter gun, two bullets and a sharp weapon from the spot.

The deceased was wanted in 13 cases including that of murder and robbery, said the RAB official.
