The government has extended the hajj-registration deadline for five more days for the last time under special consideration.

"The registration period for hajj through both public and private agencies has been extended till February 6, 2024 for the last time under special consideration," says a press release, issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday.

Last extended registration deadline ended on Thursday.

Within the extended time, initial registration can be done by depositing Tk2,05,000 in the bank or final registration can be done by paying the full amount of the prescribed package, the release adds.

"After the initial registration, the remaining value of the package must be deposited in the same bank by February 29 to complete the final registration. Otherwise hajj cannot be performed this year and money paid during initial registration will not be refunded," reads the release.

However, a total of 79,862 Bangladeshi pilgrims have completed registration to perform the holy hajj this year till filing of this report at 8:00pm.

Of the total, 4,165 have so far been enlisted under the government arrangement while 75,697 under the private arrangement.

The Saudi government has approved a quota for 127,198 Bangladeshis to perform hajj in 2024. Of them, 10,198 can perform hajj under the government management.

A total of 122,558 Bangladeshis performed hajj in 2023 against the quota for 127,198 devotees.

The hajj registration process began on November 15. However, the deadline was extended five times.

The pilgrims need to pay Tk578,840 each under the general package and Tk 936,320 each under the special package.

This year, hajj will be performed on the ninth day of Zilhaj (16 June), subject to the sighting of the moon.
