The High Court has issued a rule asking why the Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus should not be declared a ‘National Reformer’ for his success in reform initiatives.
It also questioned why those who were martyred across the country during the July uprising—including Abu Sayed and Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho—should not be declared ‘National Martyrs.’
Additionally, the court asked why a list of martyrs from the July-August anti-discrimination movement should not be prepared.
The High Court ordered the cabinet secretary, the secretaries of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Public Administration, and the Ministry of Defence to respond to the rule.
An HC bench comprising Justice Fahmida Khatun and Justice Syed Zahid Mansur passed the order today (Monday), following the primary hearing of a writ petition.
Earlier, on January 25, a citizen named Imdadul Haque sent a legal notice to the concerned authorities, urging action on the matter.
As no action was taken in response to the notice, he filed the writ petition on February 19.
