The High Court has delivered a written order to Bangladesh Bank to implement some directives, including the appointment of a caretaker for the maintenance of the properties owned by Bangladesh’s leading business conglomerate Beximco Group.
The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order on Thursday, reports bdnews24.com.
On Sept 5, the court ordered the appointment of a receiver to oversee the entities associated with Beximco Group and confiscate all the assets of the conglomerate. Bangladesh Bank was asked to implement the directives.
The court also asked to recover the money taken by the group’s owner Salman F Rahman from various banks and bring back money laundered by him abroad. The central bank had been asked to submit a report within four weeks upon implementation of the order.
Advocate Masood R Sobhan represented the writ petition, which was filed by him, during the hearing that day, while Deputy Attorney General Redwan Ahmed Ranjib and Assistant Attorney General Mujahidul Islam Shaheen stood for the state.
