The High Court (HC) on Sunday ordered the authorities concerned to investigate the allegations of embezzlement of more than Tk 1 billion (Tk 100 crore) of the clients of Homeland Life Insurance Company Limited and submit a report on August 27.
A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order this noon after holding a hearing on a writ petition.
Earlier in the day, an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel submitted a compliance report in this regard and said the anti-graft body has already started its probe and filed a progress report.
“The writ was filed on behalf of 14 clients of the company for embezzlement of Tk 1.04 billion (Tk 104.06 crore). The court after holding a primary hearing on the matter, had asked the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority chairman and ACC Chairman to probe the allegations. It had also ordered to submit a compliance report in this regard,” Advocate Akter Rosul Murad, who moved the plea before the court, told newsmen.
