The High Court has upheld the death sentences of the five people for the murder of Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed in the 2012.

The final-year student was killed in an attack on Jan 8 that year on the campus.

In 2015, the trial court sentenced five people to death and six others to life in prison— all of them activists of the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League or BCL, the ruling Awami League’s student affiliate.

Zubair Ahmed, an honours final-year student of English department at Jahangirnagar University, was tortured and stabbed by some Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on January 8, 2012. He succumbed to his injuries in a Dhaka hospital the following day.

On Wednesday, the HC upheld life imprisonment for two convicts, according to bdnews24.
