The High Court has directed the two city corporations of Dhaka — North and South — to take immediate and necessary measures to control mosquitoes in all affected areas of the capital.
An HC bench comprising Justice Habibul Gani and Justice Sheikh Tahsin Ali issued the directive on Monday, following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition.
The court also issued a rule and instructed the authorities to submit a progress report on the measures taken within the next two months.
Supreme Court lawyer Md. Salequzzaman Sagar filed the writ petition last month, seeking directives to take necessary steps to control mosquitoes in the affected areas of Dhaka.
The petition included various media reports highlighting the rising mosquito menace and the increasing prevalence of mosquito-borne diseases such as chikungunya, dengue, and malaria.
