The High Court has postponed the hearing of a writ petition filed by some former workers of Marico Bangladesh Limited over a claim of Tk 18.23 billion.
A High Court division bench consisting of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf on Tuesday directed that the hearing will be held after Eid-ul-Azha.
Nineteen former employees of Marico Bangladesh on May 14 this year filed a petition with the High Court, seeking Tk 18.23 billion from the ‘Workers' Participation Fund’ and the ‘Workers' Welfare Fund’ as dues owed to them.
During a hearing on Tuesday, the lawyer representing the former workers informed the court that the matter was complex and required ample time for the hearing. Consequently, the bench postponed and rescheduled the hearing until after Eid-ul-Azha.
During the proceedings, the counsel for Marico Bangladesh drew the court's attention to a press briefing held by the former workers regarding their claims. The lawyer argued that the briefing had caused reputational and huge financial harm to the company and requested the court to restrain the former workers from holding any further press conferences on the matter.
In response, the court gave directions to refrain from holding any press conference in the media regarding the case for the time being.
