The High Court on Wednesday concluded the hearing on the rule issued earlier over a bail petition of Hallmark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam in a case filed over misappropriating Tk 858.73 million from Janata Bank, a state-owned commercial bank.

The court at the same time fixed June 30 for delivering the verdict on the issue.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order after concluding the hearing.

On November 1, 2016, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case with Motijheel Police Station accusing Jasmine and 15 others of misappropriating Tk 858.73 million from Janata Bank.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan who appeared in the hearing on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission said, “The High Court on March 10 in 2019 granted her bail in the case. The ACC then filed an appeal against the HC order. After hearing, the appeal the Appellate Division cancelled her bail granted by the HC and asked her to surrender within four weeks.”

“Following the apex court direction she surrendered. Then she again filed a bail petition with the High Court. The High Court then issued a rule over her bail. The hearing on the rule has been concluded on Wednesday,” added the lawyer.

Jasmine, the wife of Hallmark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud, was accused in charge sheets of all 11 cases filed on October 4 in 2012 by the ACC, over misappropriation of more than Tk 15.68 billion.
