A housewife named Fahmida Tahsin Keya (25), mother of four, has died under mysterious circumstances in Shewrapara area of Dhaka.
Her family alleges that she was strangled to death by her husband, Sifat Ali (30), following a domestic dispute, after which he fled the scene.
The incident occurred at Anamika Concord Apartments near Metro Rail pillar 322 in West Shewrapara, where the victim lived with her husband and children.
According to her relatives, around 2:00 am on Wednesday, Sifat called his mother-in-law, Nazma Begum, saying Keya was critically ill and asking them to come immediately. When pressed for details, he allegedly admitted that Keya had died.
Nazma Begum and her husband rushed to the apartment and found Sifat taking Keya to BRB Hospital in Panthapath, where doctors declared her dead.
Soon after, Sifat disappeared, locking the apartment before fleeing.
Keya’s father, Rafiqul Islam, claimed that Sifat was ill-tempered and often abused Keya in front of their children. He alleged that ongoing disputes over family property might have played a role in her death.
Mirpur Model Police Station OC, Md. Sajjad Roman, said the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“The cause of death will be determined after the inquest, autopsy, and police investigation,” he added.
