The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations 2025 began across the country on Thursday.

The exams which will continue until August 10 started with the Bangla 1st paper at 10:00 am. A total of 1,251,111 candidates have registered for the examinations from 11 education boards this year.

Of the candidates, 618,015 are male and 633,096 are female. A total of 1,055,398 students are registered under the General Education Board. On the other hand, 86,102 candidates are under the Madrasa Education Board (Alim), while 109,611 are enrolled under the Technical Education Board.

The examinations are being held at 2,797 centres. The total number of participating educational institutions is 9,314.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced that all coaching centres will remain closed throughout the country until August 15.

Education Adviser Professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar said despite a rise in coronavirus and dengue infections, there is no reason to worry about the ongoing examinations.

"I visited several exam centres and saw that all examinees are wearing masks and maintaining safe distance while taking the exam," he told the media after visiting the Vashantek Government College centre in the capital.

"We also carried out cleanliness and awareness activities in advance to tackle dengue. Overall, our preparations to combat both dengue and COVID-19 are adequate. So, I don't see any reason for fear or concern," he said.

The examinations are being held in a fair way, said the adviser, adding that the government has taken measures to prevent leakage of question papers.
