The Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent exams are unlikely to resume from Aug 11 given the current situation in Bangladesh.
Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and head of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, made the statement on Tuesday afternoon.
“Many of our exam centres have been damaged,” he said. “Many HSC exam question papers have been burnt. Under the circumstances, I don’t think we can hold the exams on Aug 11.”
An official decision regarding the exams was to be taken on Wednesday, he said.
Amid the violence surrounding the quota reform protests, schools, colleges, polytechnics and universities were closed indefinitely on Jul 16. The HSC and equivalent exams were suspended from Jul 18.
When the situation deteriorated further, the education authorities suspended all exams until Aug 1.
As circumstances calmed slightly, a new schedule for the HSC and equivalent exams was announced on Aug 4. That schedule was suspended again.
Finally, after repeated delays, the exams were to resume under a new schedule from Aug 11. But that is likely to be pushed further back.
