Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Islam has instructed superintendents of police (SP) in border districts to remain on alert and ensure that no criminals or militants are able to cross into Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan.

The instruction was revealed by Assistant Inspector General (Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar in response to a question from the media at an event on Wednesday.

Baharul was the chief guest at the “Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition and IGP Cup-2024” at the Bangladesh Sports Federation in Dhaka’s Gulshan.

Sagar said that Bangladesh has 32 border districts with India and three with Myanmar.

Asked about what police could do amid the current conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, Sagar raised the IGP’s instruction to district SPs.

"The IGP has warned the 32 district superintendents of police not to disrupt the security of Bangladesh amid the conflict between the two countries, and has told them that no militants or terrorists should enter the country."
