The government allocated Tk 29.56 billion for the Election Commission (EC) in the current fiscal year’s budget in preparation for the upcoming national elections.
An analysis of the 2025-26 FY budget passed in June suggests the figure represents nearly Tk 20 billion increase from the previous year’s allocation.
Economic Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said there is no concern regarding election funding. “Whatever amount is required for the election will be provided,” he assured, in response to a query on the election budget.
The Chief Adviser, in his address to the nation on Tuesday, announced that the 13th national election is likely to be held in the first half of February 2026, as per the plans of the interim government.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Tk 27.27 billion of the allocation for the EC this fiscal year has been earmarked as operational expenditure and Tk 2.29 billion for development purposes.
The 12th parliamentary election was held on January 7, 2024, which fell in the 2023–24 fiscal year.
Ahead of that election, Tk 41.90 billion was allocated for the EC --Tk 39.81 billion for operational expenditure and Tk 2.09 billion for development spending.
